Dr. CHEN Tao, graduated from USTC with a PHD in 2004, is a professor and doctoral supervisor of Institute of Public Safety Research, Tsinghua University, China. He is Deputy Director of the Security Department; Assistant Dean of THHI (Hefei Institute for Public Safety Research, Tsinghua University); Level 1 Certified Fire Engineer in China; Council Member of Institute of Building Fire Protection-ASC; Member of Society for Risk Analysis – China；Member of China Association for Public Safety.

He is mainly engaged in research on national emergency response platform, public safety decision-making methods, human behavior and evacuation dynamics, resettlement technologies during emergency.

He successively engaged in more than 40 research projects of China, and was responsible for four projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, two projects of the National Key Technology Research and Development Program, one project of Science Foundation for Post Doctorate Research. He has published over eighty papers and 3 books in recent years. He won the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award (First Class) for one time and the Provincial or Ministerial Science and Technology Award (First Class) for four times.
